In the city of York, Patience Evans works in the Home Office Large Major Enquiry
System (HOLMES), otherwise known as Paper Mountain. All her life, she’s lived in a
world of structure and routine, focusing on her day job and her love of puzzles.
However, when Patience shares an insight into a case with DI Bea Metcalf, her life
begins to change. Bea quickly deduces that Patience isn’t like other people and
makes connection in cases other officers don’t spot, making her the ideal person to
help solve a crime. However, Patience is autistic and whilst this makes her brilliant at
solving crimes, it also means she finds the world a tricky place to navigate. Through
the series an unlikely connection forms between Patience and Bea. Both women find
solace in one another and as they solve crimes ranging from serial suicides, a
murdered crime author, disappearing bodies and terrorist organizations, Bea and
Patience become good friends and learn from each other in a way they neverexpected.
